NO BORDERS (PRESENCE AND ABSENCE)

This thesis project, developed at the University of Strathclyde, explores the narrative of two cities -the broadcaster (host) and the receiver.

Location:

Glasgow, Scotland - Damascus, Syria

Type of Work:

Public Spaces

Practice:

University of Strathclyde

Overview

The project reflects six parameters of a city temporarily twinned with another, leaving lasting evidence in both. These include History, Art, Architecture, Culture, Storytelling, and Innovation. It explores how shared experiences and artistic expression can build bridges across cultural, political, and geographical boundaries. The case study focuses on Damascus as the broadcasting city and Glasgow as the receiver. Initial research began with memory-based sketches of Damascus. The idea evolved into a broader exploration of cultural twinning through the transformation of public squares, positioning Glasgow as part of a global cultural network.
